WHERE CLINICAL CARE, MOVEMENT AND WELLBEING COME TOGETHER TO MAKE CHANGE THAT LASTS
LOWER BACK PAIN
IN WEST AUCKLAND
Lower back pain is one of the most common reasons people seek treatment in New Zealand — affecting everyone from desk workers and parents to tradies, runners and active retirees. Sometimes it starts suddenly after lifting or injury, while other times it builds slowly through stress, posture, repetitive strain or long-standing tension. At Waitākere Health Hub we take an integrated approach to care, combining hands-on treatment, rehabilitation, movement support and wellness therapies to help reduce pain, improve movement and build long-term resilience. No GP referral is needed, and we can often lodge your Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) claim in clinic.

HOW WE TREAT LOWER BACK PAIN
osteopathy
Osteopathy focuses on how the joints, muscles, fascia and nervous system work together. Your osteopath may use hands-on techniques, mobilisation, stretching, articulation or rehabilitation advice to help improve movement, reduce tension and support healing.
massage
Massage therapy helps release muscular tension and reduce the protective guarding that often develops around painful backs. Treatment may focus on the lower back itself, but also the hips, glutes and surrounding areas that influence spinal movement.

acupuncture
Acupuncture can help reduce pain, relax tight muscles and support the nervous system’s regulation of inflammation and recovery. Treatment may include body acupuncture, electro-acupuncture, cupping or lifestyle support depending on your presentation.
shockwave therapy
For chronic or stubborn lower back and glute-related pain, shockwave therapy may help stimulate tissue healing and reduce pain sensitivity. It can be particularly useful for tendon-related pain around the pelvis and hips.
teslaformer chair
For chronic or stubborn lower back the TeslaFormer chair can strengthen the back and the pelvic floor while seated. A great way to increase strength to enable you to then attend Pilates or other strengthening classes.
clinical pilates
Our clinical Pilates and rehabilitation approach focuses on improving strength, posture, mobility and body awareness. We help identify movement habits and weaknesses that may be contributing to recurring pain, while building confidence and support through movement.
infrared sauna + wellness room
Infrared sauna and wellness therapies may help support relaxation, circulation and nervous system regulation - particularly for people whose pain is linked with stress, tension or chronic overload.
cross discipline care
Some people improve quickly with one modality, while others benefit from a layered approach. Your practitioner may recommend combining therapies - such as osteopathy and Pilates, or acupuncture alongside massage - to support both symptom relief and long-term recovery.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM YOUR FIRST APPOINTMENT
Your first appointment is focused on understanding your pain, your movement and your goals. We’ll discuss when your symptoms started, what aggravates or relieves them, your injury history, lifestyle and any relevant health factors.
Your practitioner will then assess how your body moves, where tension or restriction may be coming from, and what structures may be involved. Treatment may begin on the first visit and could include hands-on therapy, acupuncture, soft tissue work, movement advice or rehabilitation guidance depending on your presentation.
You’ll leave with a clearer understanding of what may be driving your pain, what treatment options are available, and a plan for moving forward.
