Our Commitment to Sustainability

Making a meaningful effort to care for the environment is a shared responsibility. With a growing global population and increasing demand on resources, the footprint we leave matters.

At Waitākere Health Hub, sustainability is part of our kaupapa. We are committed to minimising our environmental impact wherever possible and continually reviewing how we can reduce waste, reuse resources and recycle responsibly.

Reducing waste in everyday practice

Over recent years, we have made deliberate changes to reduce single-use items and unnecessary waste within our clinic.

These include:

  • Switching to microfibre bedding, washed between clients, instead of disposable paper rolls

  • Removing paper and polystyrene cups from our water filter system

  • Offering digital forms and communication wherever possible to reduce paper use

These small changes collectively make a meaningful difference.

Moving from paper to digital records

When the business was purchased, we inherited thousands of historic paper patient files from before the clinic transitioned to digital systems.

During lockdown and beyond, we have worked through the significant task of:

  • Scanning records into secure digital files

  • Ethically disposing of paper through secure recycling services

  • Separating and recycling cardboard folders

  • Removing and disposing of plastic tags responsibly

This has been a large and ongoing project, but an important one in reducing long-term waste.

Ethical product choices

Integrity guides our purchasing decisions. Wherever possible, we choose products that are:

  • Plastic-free or low-waste

  • Sustainably sourced

  • Made from renewable materials

We use plastic-free, sustainably sourced bamboo toilet paper and tissues, and continue to review product choices as better options become available.

Reducing emissions

Our company vehicle is electric, contributing to lower emissions and supporting the broader transition to electric vehicles — including eventually returning EVs to the second-hand market.

Looking ahead

We are committed to leaving this planet better than we found it — for our community and for our children.

Sustainability is an evolving process, and we are always open to learning.
If you have ideas or suggestions we could adopt, we would love to hear from you.
